What is STEM?
Understanding the future of innovation and eco-sustainability
Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.
STEM is a framework for learning areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM is different from traditional education in sciences and math, as it focuses on creative thinking, innovation and problem solving for real world applications in everyday life. It prepares children for exciting, fulfilling careers.
Creativity & Innovation.
"Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere." - Albert Einstein
STEM education helps children understand the world around them. It promotes teamwork, collaboration, and prepares them for careers which contribute to the advancement of society through innovation and creative thinking.
Getting hands-on with STEM is easy! Raid the recycling bins, and start making!
Supporting a growing a community of young thinkers and makers.
Smartsie is the breadcrumbs of smart stuff. Every child will wander their own journey in STEM and discover what they love and don't love, we're just here to to put the bowling bumpers up.
With a huge range of quality STEM products from brands such as National Geographic, Australian Geographic, 4M, Johnco & more, DIY project guides, local science/engineering competitions & parent/carer resources, our mission is to nurture the next generation of thinkers and makers.
Learning through play.
What age should my child start learning STEM?
Any Age! Introducing the concepts of science, technology, engineering & mathematics doesn't have to be school-level. STEM has a broad spectrum that can be fun even at a very young age. Exploring the natural world, building worm farms, sensory toys, even simply learning what sinks and floats are great ways to get started early on.
Why is STEM important?
STEM helps children develop skills in problem solving, creativity, critical analysis, teamwork, independent thinking, communication and digital literacy.
What if my child isn’t interested in traditional STEM subjects?
STEM education can be integrated into many interests. If your child loves art, explore the field of digital design. If they're into storytelling, consider coding games or engineering projects. Finding connections between their passions and STEM can make the subjects more engaging.
How can I introduce STEM concepts to my young child?
Start with hands-on activities that align with their interests. Simple experiments, educational games, and interactive toys can make learning fun and engaging. Look for activities that involve building, exploring, or solving puzzles to stimulate their curiosity and understanding.
How can I support my child’s STEM learning outside of school?
Encourage curiosity by providing them with STEM-related books, games, and kits. Visit science museums, watch educational shows, or explore nature together. Create a learning-friendly environment at home where questions and exploration are always welcome.
What are some easy STEM activities I can do at home?
You can try activities like building structures with blocks, experimenting with baking soda and vinegar volcanoes, or using everyday items to create simple machines. We also offer online resources and kits that provide step-by-step instructions for fun, educational projects.
Are there any benefits to enrolling my child in STEM-related extracurricular activities?
Absolutely! STEM extracurriculars, such as coding clubs, robotics teams, or science camps, provide hands-on experience, foster teamwork, and encourage deeper exploration of STEM subjects. They also help children build confidence and connect with peers who share similar interests.
How can STEM education improve my child's problem-solving skills?
STEM education encourages children to approach problems logically and creatively. By working on STEM projects, they learn to identify problems, test solutions, and analyze results, which enhances their ability to think critically and solve challenges effectively.
